Does Technology Engage Students in Learning?

The discipline dealing with the art or science of applying scientific knowledge to practical problems i.e. technology has garnered critical acclaims and compliments in the field of education system too. Technology has succeed with high margin to bring a drastic change in the methodology in teaching in a short period.

In this 21st century where 52% children with age variation 0-8 years have smart phones, video-ipod or tablets as their primary demands, this new methodology is far concerning, interesting and effective.



Probably all the schools, colleges, universities, private training centers have become devotee of technological way of study. Institute have not only set out the above way of learning but also set up new initiatives regarding it. Forsyth County schools , 9th largest school system in Georgia, started initiative such as -“Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) and the Noble Virtual World Project". Under BYOT students were allowed to bring their technological study equipment like Laptop, Smart Phone, Google watch....

Report of MSNBC showed that many schools wished for BYOT, they also started such initiative and keep institutes adorned with projectors, computers, WiFi...

There have been several key developments during the period in the discussed sectors. According to National Center of Education Statistics, 35% American public schools had internet access in 1994. According to an article on Ed Week Organisation The federal communications commission reported that 97% of American Public Schools, What an incredible development of technology in last 16 years!

No doubt technological way of teaching has set up its place in teaching style of mass teachers, tutors, professors... But nothing in the universe can hold off its negative aspects.

Education is not formal or informal information an individual receives from respective websites. In needs imparting knowledge along in inspirations teachers are role models creating trust and inspiring students in an environment where learning occurs – technology alone cannot offer these skills. Different individuals have different skills or unique person requires unique explanation of education which technology cant. One cannot think of one single occasions when someone has stopped him/her recall fondly about an inspirational and influential piece of computer software which is his/her idol. But one may come across many students eulogizing over a teacher who changed their lives and without whom they would not be in the position they are today. That is the result of trust about a relationship between the teacher and students.

In spite of all ups and downs, advantages and disadvantages, Scholastics and the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation surveyed 10,000 public school teachers.
